Do you ever get the sense that God could be absent, and our study of Scripture would still feel the same?
As I listened and watched what was happening in the room, I knew I would never be the same. I was part of a Sorcratic study of the Scriptures: a small group of people gathered around a text, being led to follow the trails of word origins and history, and participating in what formed as a result through questions and conversation. There was one word I would use to describe it: alive. The room was pregnant with the Spirit of God birthing something new through His Word and the specific group of people gathered around it. It was practical and pastoral, scholarly and mystical, personal and communal.
I have developed a passion for creating this kind of space so others can experience it, too.
If you are interested in participating in a Socratic study, please fill out the form below. If you are local to Minneapolis, I can let you know the next time one will be held locally. If you are from another area, we can connect about bringing me to you.
This website is a guidepost for what you will get from me as a teacher. There is a blog on which I work out my thoughts about how God is moving in the world and in the Word. There is a teaching page on which you can hear some samples of my teaching in a more traditional speaking format. There's also an about me page on which you can read more about who I am and where I'm coming from. Plus, a few other pages you can explore if you are still curious for more.
I believe God still speaks. I am listening with hopeful expectation. I hope you will join me.
