Hi, I'm Stephanie. If you were in my living room, I'd hand you a cup of coffee, and invite you to sit on my couch so we could get to know each other. I am glad you are here.
I have been fascinated by people my entire life. From a young age, I looked at the individuality of those I cared about, and tried to find or make them the perfect gift. I am a question-asker with an insatiable curiosity about the lives, hearts, and experiences of those around me. I am also an advice-giver, with a natural bent towards using my gifts and skills to help others. (Thankfully, I have learned the important distinction between solicited and unsolicited advice as I have matured.)
During a tumultuous time in adolescence, I began reading the Psalms every night for comfort, even though my faith context hadn't taught me the practice of individual Bible-reading. I learned to listen for God's voice and eventually grew to believe that God is real and God is good. I have found transformation and healing through Christ, and discovered a God who loved me.
As I grew, I took that love of people and love of God into a degree in social work, a masters degree in children and family ministry, and a career as a pastor. My heart and experiences have continued to expand through writing, Socratic Scripture Study, and work with the enneagram.
I hope my experiences, passions, and gifts can help you, through what you discover here. Please explore this website to investigate how I could help you, your community, your business, or your church through teaching, facilitating, and listening.* Grab a cup of coffee, look around, and contact me. I look forward to connecting with you.
*Church leaders, I'd love to plant a seed: I happen to think the combination of Socratic Scripture Study and enneagram sessions would be fantastic for your next retreat.
Still curious? Here's more about my family, my background, and my interests.
I am one half of a happily married couple. Fun fact: we got engaged at the turn of the millennium... in Paris. Seriously. My hubby is still getting brownie points for that one.
I also have the joy of being a mom of two young boys. Which means life is full of funny quotes, grateful moments, small adventures, and a healthy dose of stress.
I am a graduate of Bethel Seminary and have worked in churches for the better part of my adult life. I have loved leading teams, empowering volunteers, listening to people's stories, and preaching the Word of God. The Church has a messy history, and complicated current reality, but I still consider it a joy and privilege to have worked for her.
My life and faith journey has been shaped by many things, not the least of which was the pregnancy complications that occurred with my first child. We were both quite sick and he was born 2 months early. The experience of having a preemie was gut-wrenching and life-changing. You can read more about it in a few of my posts, including He knew and What makes a good God story?.
I've found the enneagram to be such a helpful tool in my own life, I decided to go through the Enneagram Spectrum Training and Certification Program. If you know enneagram, you may be interested to know that I'm a Style 2, which might have been obvious with all this talk about love and helping people. Understanding my style is opening my eyes to the good and bad of how I interact with the world. Thank goodness for grace and the ability to keep learning. For those more familiar with Myers-Briggs, I am an ENFJ. In Strengths Finder, I have communication, ideation, individualization, strategic, and achiever. (Which clearly demonstrates my enneagram wing is style 3.)
I adore traveling, hiking, hosting people for dinner, and losing track of time talking about life with friends. All these things are best done with coffee, wine, and chocolate.
Now that you know more about me, would you return the favor and tell me about you? Please send me an email and let me know you stopped by.
